UK Parents Support Groups

FFLAG (Friends and Families of Lesbians and Gays)
Manchester Parents Group is affiliated to FFLAG  It is our national umbrella organisation.

Birmingham Parents Support Group
Birmingham Parents Support group is dedicated to helping families coming to terms with knowing that a member of their family is lesbian or gay.

Bristol Families and Friends
Bristol Families & Friends is a support group for families and friends of lesbians, gay men and bisexual women and men and their partners based in Bristol.

FFLAG Wales
FFLAG-Wales is committed to the fight for equality for all people regardless of their sexuality. They are represented on organisations that work to this end. These include the Cardiff Community Safety Partnership and the Lesbian, Gay and Bisexual Forum Cymru.

Parents Enquiry Scotland
Parents Enquiry Scotland offers support to parents and their gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender sons and daughters.

 

International Parents Support Groups and information

PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbian and Gays)
Huge U.S. umbrella organisation for parents support groups. Plenty of information for parents and links to affiliated parents groups.

PFLAG South
A New Zealand group for parents and families with lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered members. It is based in the lower half of the South Island, New Zealand.

Straight Spouse Network
A US-based international organisation supporting straight partners in mixed orientation marriages/partnerships, with the aim of providing constructive encouragement toward a positive relationship between the partners, whether staying together or separating.

The Lesbian & Gay Foundation provides a variety of services.

London Lesbian and Gay Switchboard
Provide an information, support and referral service for lesbians, gay men and bisexual people from all backgrounds throughout the United Kingdom.

Oxford Friend
Free and completely confidential information, support and counselling services for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals.

 

Religious groups and support

Lesbian and Gay Christian movement
A movement that encourage fellowship, friendship, and support among individual lesbian and gay Christians through prayer, study and action, wherever possible in local groups, and especially to support those lesbian and gay Christians subjected to discrimination.

Ministry for Gay Christians
George Hopper, a retired scientist/engineer, local preacher and inclusive Christian. In 1992 he went from being anti-gay to a simple ministry of friendship, support and Christian love, for lesbian and gay Christians.

Parents of Jewish Gays and Lesbians
The Support Group for Parents of Jewish Gays and Lesbians is a group of parents who want to help other parents who are struggling to cope with so many feelings.

 

University groups

Birmingham University LGB society
A university group that have events every Thursday and welcomes all new members

Salford University LGB society
The university of Salford's LGB society.

UMIST (Manchester) LGB society
The UMIST LGB Society acts as a social group for Manchester students who are lesbian, gay or bisexual and their friends.

 

Youth LGBT support groups

Albert Kennedy Trust
The Albert Kennedy Trust is group tackling homelessness among gay, lesbian & bisexual teenagers.

Freedom Club
A lesbian and gay youth social/support group aimed primarily at 16-23 year olds living in the Huntingdonshire District of Cambridgeshire

Gay Youth Line Project
The Gay Youth Line Project was set up to provide confidential support and information to young gay, lesbian & bisexual people, their families and those unsure about their sexuality

Girl Diva
A London based group for all young lesbian & bisexual women under 25, who are questioning their sexuality. The group can offer much support for those of all levels of coming out.

Icebreakers
A Manchester based group for gay and bi-sexual men who are either coming out, or are new to Manchester. They hold weekly meetings, plus weekend events such as pub crawls, cinema visits and walks. Icebreakers aims to be a way for men to make friends and establish a social network.

Lesbian and Gay youth Manchester
A Manchester based group for young lesbians, gays and bisexuals. The group is open to anyone aged 14 to 25 years old.

Mermaids
Mermaids supports children and teenagers up to the age of 19 who are trying to cope with gender identity issues offering support to parents, families, carers, and others.

Mosaic
Mosiac is a group for young people that meet locally in Brent

OutZone
A London based group for Gay and Bisexual men under 26. As a totally confidential service it can offer much support for those at all levels of coming out.

Peer Support Project
The Manchester based Peer Support Project provides support services to lesbian, gay and bisexual young people. Good Information.

Community groups

Cara Friend
Cara-Friend is a voluntary counselling service for the LGBT community in N. Ireland and comprise 3 groups:  Gay Helpline, Lesbian Line and Gay and Lesbian Youth Northern Ireland (GLYNI).

Derbyshire Friend
Derbyshire Friend is an independent LGB Charity based in Derby, supplying services to the LGB community in Derbyshire.

Gay Healthy Alliance Project (GHAP)
GHAP promotes the physical, psychological and social well-being of lesbians, gays and bisexuals.

Intercom Trust
The Intercom Trust is a South West based voluntary community organisation, run by, and for lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transsexuals and the community as a whole.

Northampton Lesbian Line
A group to help women who are questioning their sexuality and who seek a safe and confidential environment in which to meet other lesbians.

Outhouse
Dublin's community and resource centre for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered community.

Cara Friend
Provides a voluntary counselling service for the LGBT community in N. Ireland and comprises 3 groups:  Gay Helpline, Lesbian Line and Gay and Lesbian Youth Northern Ireland (GLYNI).

Shout
Shout is an North Devon based a social group for the lesbian, gay, bisexual & transgendered community (and all our friends).

 

Campaigning groups

Outrage
OutRage has one very clear objective: 'to campaign against all forms of homophobia and to work for the emancipation of all queers. We work with everyone who shares our commitment, regardless of their political affiliations'. Massive amounts of campaigning information to do with Lesbian and Gay issues.

Stonewall
The national civil rights group working for legal equality and social justice for lesbians, gay men and bisexuals. It is a respected and effective campaigning organisation working with a growing network of sympathetic politicians and alongside many grass roots groups.

Understanding Prejudice
More than 2,000 links to prejudice-related resources, as well as searchable databases with hundreds of prejudice researchers and social justice organizations.
